Why I work at Gongos

Gongos has a fantastic team. I like that we have the resources of a large company, but maintain our small company culture. No day is ever alike here and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Work/Life balance is also important to me and we do that perfectly here.

Why I love what I do

In a word…variety! Since moving to the Analytics team, I’ve had the opportunity to work as a project director and day-to-day consultant with all of the project teams and their clients. I love having my hands in a lot of different research studies and meeting the needs of our project teams’ requests.

My career path

From a young age it was obvious to pretty much everyone who knew me that I was very analytical. I tend to focus on the details of a problem – why something isn’t working and what’s wrong with the existing situation. I like to troubleshoot different situations and challenges, inside and outside of the workplace.

A day at the office

Today I arrived to work at 7:30am with plans to work on a study I am managing—the incidence on a report is coming in lower than we anticipated. When I log in, I had a number of emergency “do you have 10 minutes to help” emails. Although the success of this project rests on my shoulders, our goal in Analytics is to never say no to our teams’ needs. So I began working on the requests from my fellow employees.

First, I resolved problems that some were having in Excel. Fortunately, by documenting common requests, I didn’t have to reinvent the wheel. After that, concept images needed to be reworked before they could go “live” to respondents. By 11:00am I finally had a chance to get back to my study. I called a number of our partners who maintain Internet panels to examine the most cost-effective solutions. I also ran feasibility on Consumer Village – our internal metaCommunity.

Lunch rolls around and fortunately I have time to join the other staff in the lounge. On the TV was Family Feud. That always seems appropriate for a company that does a lot of surveys.

Arriving back to my office, I was happy to have responses from our sampling partners. Since Consumer Village is feasible, I decided to utilize it to help complete the study. It is still great to know that we have recruiting partners who are available when needed. It’s going to be quite an afternoon trying to wrap up the fieldwork on this study while trying to meet all the needs internally... but I thrive on this stuff!

What I love outside of work

I’ve played piano for 22 years. Although the years don’t always show in my ability, I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to help lead worship at my church every month. Additionally, the band Bowen that I started with friends when I was 12 years old is still playing locally. I also love road trips. For me, vacation is about the journey – not the destination. I love hitting all the crazy Americana and roadside oddities that I pass on the way. I feel that I’d miss so much if I chose to fly, and I think about the places I’d never see if I hadn’t driven through. Sometimes I almost think I could drive into the horizon forever…and then I remember what I have to come home to.
